Psalm 27:1-7

We live in a world of fear: our things being stolen, losing our job, our kids being harmed. We live afraid. Bad things can happen, might happen, do happen. How do we navigate the maze of mishaps in our lives?

Paul reminds us, “When God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31). The psalmist declares, “of whom shall I fear?”(v. 1b). We do not need to live in fear. Storms may come, empires can seek our demise, the entirety of the world may rise against us, through it all God will walk with us. God is our strength and our shield, in times of peace, through all calamity, and in the face of all that brings fear. When we feel overwhelmed by all that rises up against us, we find strength in the assurances of the psalmist’s words. Wherever there is trouble God is there, dwelling with us, providing a place of shelter to weather the storm. God will hold us close. When life’s troubles come crashing in, we are never alone. It is God’s strength that will carry us through.
