Exodus 33:1-11

The Israelites had disobeyed God and created an idol, and followed it up with pagan-like revelry. Many suffered as a direct result (32:28, 35). Just when they thought things couldn’t get any worse, they did: The LORD threatened to not go with them as they continued on their journey. There is nothing more unimaginable than going through life without God’s presence going with us and before us. Yet this seemed to be the impending consequence for their actions. Finally the people mourn their actions and the threatened punishment.

All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23). We were all in the position the Israelites found themselves in: deserving God’s punishment and being abandoned by His presence. The Good News is, thanks be to Jesus, we are forgiven our sins and assured of His continual presence if we repent of our sins. Is there any sin in your life of which you need to repent? Confess it and turn from it now. If not, why don’t you take a moment and praise. Thank God for responding graciously to you when you repented of your sins and turned to Him?
