Ephesians 2:11-22

I witnessed a situation at work that demonstrates how frustrating it can be to have only limited access to someone. Because of the strict structure of this particular workplace, my boss could not talk directly to the person making decisions about our department. It is not so much that the hierarchical structure was at fault. Rather, it was that the message we were trying to convey could potentially get “lost in translation.” My boss was trying to explain the very specialized issues of our department to a supervisor who did not quite understand.

This is why direct access to God is so important. Ephesians 2 says we have access to God in an unprecedented way. Paul is talking about the new access Gentiles have to God. Before Christ, only Jews had access to the covenant promises of God. Christ has reconciled both the Jews and Gentiles to each other and to God, allowing them equal access. We, their descendants, are privileged to benefit from this same direct line to God! Nothing is lost in translation.
