A Better Option

Proverbs 14:1-9
God has a strategy for a broken relationship–when we don’t know what to do. Jesus’ little brother, James, gave us the strategy: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you” (James 1:5). He didn’t say ignore the problem, or sweep it under the rug, hoping that reconciliation comes. That doesn’t mean be defensive or offensive. Usually we think those are the only two options. Either we think, “I’ve got to defend myself” or “I’ve got to set them straight.” We will often go to great lengths explaining why we did what we did. We become exhausted running from fire to fire, repeating our explanation.
Or we go on the offensive and attack the other person; we point out how wrong they are; how immature or insecure they must be. That is not the answer.
There’s a better option. Ask for God’s wisdom and become relational. Choose to do what is good and best for the relationship.
