Genesis 45:1-15

I cannot read the story of Joseph and his brothers in Genesis 45 without thinking of Paul’s words in Romans 8:28: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (KJV).

Joseph’s brothers had been very cruel to him. They sold him for the price of a slave to the Midianites. He was then taken in bondage to Egypt, where he was sold as a slave. His brothers even told their father, Jacob, that Joseph was dead. They got the shock of their lives when Joseph revealed to them, “I am Joseph.”

It would be hard to imagine all that Joseph’s brothers felt. The Bible tells us they were speechless, terrified, and distressed. Joseph could have retaliated with the same treatment. But no, he assured them it was not they who had sent him to Egypt, but God (Genesis 45:5).

When things get tough, remember that we can trust that all things will work together for good for those who love the Lord.
