Revelation 3:7-13

Open doors bring anticipation, excitement and hope. Open doors represent the beginning of something better. When a door is shut, we feel disappointed. The church at Philadelphia, mentioned in the Book of Revelation, was given a promise: “an open door that no one can shut!” (Revelation 3:8).

The Philadelphia church did not have it easy. They experienced struggles and disappointments; their strength was almost gone. Jesus saw the heart of those Philadelphia saints who kept His Word and did not deny Him. Churches around them compromised their faith, but Philadelphia stayed true. Jesus gave the promise of all promises! He has opened the door to life everlasting that no one can shut.

Jesus gives Philadelphia a caution, telling them to “Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown” (Revelation 3:11). Jesus knows what can happen when strength is almost gone. It is during those times when the church is most at risk to fall for the voice of the enemy. Jesus says, “I am coming soon, hold on!” (Revelation 3:8).
