You Have His Word

Hebrews 10:19-39
Egas Moniz was a Portuguese nobleman who assured a Spanish king that the prince he tutored and advised would fulfill a promise of loyalty to the monarch. When the young man failed to honor the commitment, Moniz made a painful decision. He travelled to Spain, a rope around his neck, with his wife and their children. There he asked to be received by the king. Permission granted, he knelt before the throne and offered all of them as slaves. Moniz would rather lose all than to break a promise.
Transactions nowadays demand stacks of papers, witnesses, stamps and signatures. Long gone are the days when a handshake seals a valuable contract. A Russian phase underlines the universal climate of suspicion: “Trust, but verify!”
Only God is totally reliable. And He does not deal with us by proxy—through agents, brokers, lobbyists or representatives. Our hope is unshakable because it is anchored in His individualized promise. You have His word.
