Matthew 11:16-30

Doubt is the easy choice. It is usually fed by the scoffers, the “experts” who have all the answers as to why Jesus could not have been the Messiah. He did not fit their mold. He had the wrong pedigree. His appearance was less than impressive. He kept the wrong company. And He certainly didn’t dance to their tune!

As is the case with scoffers of every age, however, Jesus’ critics failed to see their own inconsistencies. John did not feast or imbibe, and they said he had a demon. Jesus loved a party, and they said He was a drunk who hung out with the wrong crowd.

It is amazing that some folks never seem able to see God at work, and others cannot get away from His awesome interventions. Sadly, the more cynical we become, the less we see Him at work.

It’s simple, said Jesus. The secret of seeing God is learning from me!

Don’t be distracted by the doubts and fears of others. Turn to the One who is himself truth and life.

Thank you, Jesse C. Middendorf, for your devotional this morning. In the world today there are many that are hard at work, with the use of brilliant technology, doing everything they can come up with to discredit anything that believers are proclaiming as a work of God– and millions of people are buying it, causing much unbelief and doubt. And the Bible, to many, is just a book written by men. If people do not believe that the Bible is the Word of God, then they are not apt to pick it up and read it, let alone abide by it’s teachings. The Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NIV),
“And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.” What do you suppose Paul would write to nations of the world today?
