Jeremiah 31:33-40

First, we should remember that God’s forgiveness of wickedness is directly tied to His covenant commitment: “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel . . .” (v. 34). God institutes this covenant with a sinful and rebellious people. It is through this initiative that we can know God will do what He says He will do. He will forgive us!

The promise of forgiveness is bound to the very person and nature of God. This may be hard to wrap our minds around. “That God should love a sinner such as I–How wonderful is love like this!” (C. Bishop). Many of us sing and love this song. But, perhaps we should re-engage this hymn in a fashion whereby new and growing believers can understand its truth. No matter the sin, or the depth of sin’s stain, God does love a “sinner such as I.” Even more, we know that God writes His law on our hearts and minds and will remember our sins against us no more! Take time today to praise God for His pardon and the seal of His forgiveness in the New Covenant through the promise of His Holy Spirit.

There are times that I truly know not what to say when in the presence of God. Though I may not know what to say, but my soul within me bows at the feet of God in worship and praise.
