1 Corinthians 1:26—2:5

It was a very hot, muggy day in Barbados, the sun shone down unmercifully as people squeezed under the small and raggedy cover waiting for a bus. A young missionary and her small son were among the crowd. Sweat was dripping down her face and her attitude was not really happy in her circumstances.

Suddenly, from down the road the sound of shouting was heard. The sound came from a lady who appeared decidedly poor. And then, the words became discernible, “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Phil. 2:10-11).

Arriving at the bus stop the woman looked over the crowd with compassion. It was then the missionary lady became embarrassed at her selfish attitude. She turned her heart toward the One this delightful messenger had just been declaring. The missionary began to sing and shout along with the “shouter,” resolving once again to declare Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
