Jesus A Threat

John 11:45-57

The good news and then the bad news. The good news is that following the miracle of the raising of Lazarus, many came to believe in Jesus. The bad news? Instead of believing in Christ, some decided Jesus was a threat and plotted to have him killed. Caiaphas offered Jesus up. His rationale? “It is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish” (v. 50). Little did Caiaphas know what irony was in those words. He was actually speaking of saving his own future through the death of one man, but his words speak prophetically of the saving grace of Christ. How ironic!

Yet, what was true then is true today. Caiaphas judged things not in the light of principle but in the light of his own career. It was simple. Jesus was a threat and needed to be dealt with.

Today the world still sets its own personal goals above the will of God. Jesus is still a threat. We like our “comfort zone.” We enjoy what we have. And that is fine . . . as long as we walk in the light of truth!

Those last 2 sentences are the crux of our eternal destiny and they describe the 24 hour warfare that ensues in and around us. I sence the true Church must pray diligently for wisdom, discernment and mercy to be stirred up within us. God please help us to to figuratively hate our own households in comparison to our love and surrender to You. Cause the wheat to stand out blatantly in our society of chaff. Have mercy in this nation for Your name’s sake, Jesus, and allow the American body of Christ to rise up and glorify You alone. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
