He is No Fool

She was a successful attorney. She had risen to the lucrative position of partner in a large law firm. Then she and her husband felt God’s tug to become missionaries. When she told her law firm partners, they said, “You are crazy!” Nevertheless, she was faithful to the call. Today this outstanding couple is happily serving the Lord in Central America, where they have been missionaries for 15 years. They are experiencing God’s power in their lives as messengers of the cross. To unbelievers this story might seem foolish, “but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
Jim Elliot, martyred for Christ in Ecuador, said, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.” In recent years I have come to know Jim’s widow, Elisabeth Elliot. I said to her, “You know I am teaching those who are called to be missionaries. What advice would you give them?” She thought for a moment and then replied, “I would say, take up your cross daily and follow Him”.
