Jealousy Kills

RG AUDIO 120911John 3:22-36

Jealousy kills. In the movie Amadeus Antonio Salieri, the talented Austrian Royal Court musician, is depicted becoming mentally deranged and angry with God for not giving him talents greater than Mozart. This life ruined because of jealousy is based more in the playwright’s imagination than historical fact. Nevertheless it remains a powerful depiction of the corrosive power of jealousy on life and happiness.

John the Baptist was a great man who could have had a jealous heart. John’s situation had similarities to Salieri’s character in Amadeus, but his attitude was different. John the Baptist preceded Jesus and was already well known, but he humbled himself and honored Jesus.

As disciples and followers of Christ we must be humble servants as well.

I quite often pray the words of John the Baptist, “May I become less and less and He (Christ) become more and more. To follow Christ I find that everyday I must die to self so that Christ may have His way in my life.
I used to be jealous of people serving the Lord in different ways but God has removed that spirit from me by assuring me that we ALL have a place to serve Him in His vast Kingdom. God’s kingdom is where ever we are!! So thankful for a King who lavishes his love on me daily.
