Thirsting for God

November 23rd, 2011

RG AUDIO 1123Psalm 42

What do you want? What do you really want? What is the focus of your hopes, thoughts, daydreams, plans, and energies? Are your desires worthy of the eternal being you are, or are they too short-term and shallow to really satisfy you? In 50 years will it make any difference if you did or didn’t get what you want?

Be honest: How much do you truly desire God? Are you thirsty for him the way you thirst for water on a hot day? In the end, all that will matter is your relationship with him. The only lasting joy on earth or in heaven is the joy of his presence and his approval.

That’s why God will use anything to draw us to himself. Our relationship with him is the key to happiness now and forever. As in Psalm 42, sometimes life’s struggles make him seem so far away. Still, if God remains the focus of our heart, such “absence” truly can make the heart grow fonder. The difficulties of life can sharpen our desire for him. Through all that your days hold up in front of you, continue to want him.

Thank you for the reminder. I am grateful for the devotion today. I am experiencing some tough times and my mind has been on my troubles, not on God… hardly enough. Keep doing the good work of the Good News.
