Looking Forward to Heaven

Revelation 21:1-14

Many years ago an elderly Christian told me she was homesick for heaven. I wondered what was wrong with me. I didn’t share her feeling. I wanted to live a long time.

Now that I am older I am beginning to understand. The years have a way of increasing our tears. Friends move. Loved ones die. We find it more difficult to adjust to the change. We struggle with problems we did not understand when we were young.

You will notice a person who has just been crying. You can look at their eyes and see traces of tears. When we love Christ, the day will come when even the traces will be gone. They won’t just evaporate. God himself will wipe them from our eyes.

You may have heard that “some people are so heavenly minded they are of no earthly good.” Think about it though, the persons who wrote the Bible thought a lot about the life to come, and they found faith and hope to face life as it comes. If we love Christ, thinking about heaven should bring us great joy and encouragement.
