You Are Loved!
July 6th, 2011
John 11:1-6
Bad things happen to most of us. They come in the form of major illness, the death of a loved one, the loss of a home or a job. Even the ordinary frustrations of life can become a crushing weight on our spirit. We feel overwhelmed. At times we face something worse than the problem itself. We fear that in some way our troubles indicate God does not love us. If God loved us, we reason, these things would not be happening.
We don’t know a lot about Lazarus. One thing we do know, Jesus loved Lazarus. Lazarus was sick and his sisters sent for Jesus, but Jesus did not come. When Jesus finally arrived, Lazarus was not only dead, he was buried. Mary and Martha knew Jesus loved their brother and he loved him.
We need to know Jesus loves us. One thing we learn is that Jesus doesn’t always come immediately. Sometimes things get worse instead of better. He knows. He cares. There is a plan!
