Courageous Love

Luke 5:27-39
Reaching out to the marginalized of society is often looked upon with suspicion. Even the recipient sometimes thinks there must be a catch or ulterior motive. Such was the case with Jesus and a guy named Levi.
Tax collectors were considered traitors to Israel. They lived on the edge of society and were counted as the worst of sinners. Yet, Jesus courageously called Levi to follow him. Levi left his vocation to heed Jesus’ call.
There are still those today who must leave everything to follow Jesus. People who leave other faiths often become outcasts to their friends and families. In some countries, it is a crime to become a Christian. Yet, the Church is growing in areas of the world where it is persecuted most.
Christians in the free world are challenged by their heroic stance. Are we sometimes hesitant to speak up in defense of our faith? Let’s take a stand for Christ!
