Trust and Obey

As parents and grandparents, our wishes, desires, and hopes for our offspring can only be a microcosm of God’s plans for His “chosen people.” However, as we read the Old Testament carefully, we see the heart-rending disobedience of not only the people, but later the leaders. Repeatedly the Scripture state that there came a king who “did evil in the eyes of the Lord”. Sadly, this reference is multiplied, even though God plans the very best and tries to prepare these “willful children” for a land flowing with “milk and honey.”

One writer has stated, “If we ignore history, we will be forced to repeat it!” William Booth, the founder of The Salvation Army, said over a century ago, “God’s promises are sure if you only believe.”

Romans 8:28 did not come until centuries later, but Paul the apostle reminds all of us “we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Amen when we hesitate to do God’s Will and bad things happen; we should look at it from the angle of parenting. When tell our children what we want them to do it is for their best interest, and when they do what they want often it leads to disaster. We then tell our children like it is; Good thing God doesn’t tell us like it is when we fail to listen.
