Godly Influence
May 15th, 2010
Charismatic personalities have no trouble gathering a crowd. Say anything often enough, with a sense of importance, someone will believe it, whether what you are saying is true or not. It is amazing how influential a good orator can be.
Paul wanted the Galatians to understand that the message he delivered to them was not something he had made up. He was not preaching his personal ideas. Paul was passing on to them a message from God. Therefore, he could live with the results.
Galatians 1:11 raises the issue every preacher and teacher must face. “Do I share my ideas or God’s?” That should be a “no-brainer,” but sometimes that is not the case. Not every speech in church–even some delivered from the pulpit–may be a message from God. A gifted orator can influence the way the listeners respond. However, whoever influences listeners must also take responsibility for the results. We can always live and be pleased with the results of our godly influence.
