Every Need Provided

John 6:30-40

I spent much of my teenage years struggling with God’s call on my life. I had not been living a particularly Christian or holy life, so I had very real doubts about whether God could use me. Like Gideon in the Old Testament, I often put out “fleeces,” asking God to prove that He was really calling me to vocational ministry. I was longing for a sign, much like the crowd in John 6.

Jesus has other plans, however. He is the sign. He is the bread of life. It is in Him that the crowd will find their spiritual needs provided. What ultimately confirmed my sense that God was calling me into ministry wasn’t a prayer request for God to provide a fleece but pursuing Jesus and living my life for Him.

In Matthew 5:6, Jesus says, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” When we seek Him, we will find that all our spiritual needs are provided for and met in the person of Jesus Christ.

Jesus really is all we need.
