Greed Isn’t Godly

Luke 12:13-21
“Greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.” These are the famous lines from the character Gordon Gekko in the 1987 movie “Wall Street.” This is arguably an accurate depiction of the consumerist mindset in the dog-eat-dog world of day trading portrayed in the film. It is also inarguably antithetical to a life of holiness.
Greed isn’t good. It doesn’t work. It isn’t godly. In Luke 12, Jesus reminds us that people who store up for themselves while being stingy with God are as foolish as someone planning to build bigger barns to store their goods on the day they are going to die.
We all should know that one day life on this side of eternity will end. The question for us is what we will do with this life. Will we live it with an open hand or with a clenched fist?

Amen and amen. I have been personally asking God to help me manage “his money” because it is through His strength that we have the ability to work everyday and have asked Him to provide clear direction as to how I can help others. It is not bad to have money but it’s a sin when we place it before our dependance on God Almighty. It is written it is easier for a camel to enter the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God. Matthew 19:26 It is also written to not love money and to be satisfied with what we have because God will never leave us nor forsake us. Hebrews 13:5 Deuteronomy 31:6 Plus, as the devotional says “one day life on this side of eternity will end.” We are citizens of heaven. Not of this world. Phillipians 3:20
