Ephesians 4:1-16

People today don’t have a problem telling others their “truth,” anything from the best sports team to the preferred automobile maker to the correct politician to vote for. The loss of personal contact has emboldened many to insist on their insights—at times in unhealthy ways.

Too often I’ve seen people beat others over the head with the gospel—only for it to be rejected. I’ve witnessed church members share truth and the result is a split in the Body of Christ. I’ve heard from people far from the faith tell how well-intentioned Christians condemned them with the plan of salvation.

The problem isn’t always the truth which is being shared. The problem is often how we share the truth with others. Our bearing witness to the truth is to be grounded in humility, gentleness, patience, and love (Ephesians 4:2, emphasis added).

Don’t worry about the gospel being watered down—we plant the seed and allow the Holy Spirit to cultivate. But if we fail to plant that seed in humility and love, we may be ripping apart, rather than sowing, the field.
