Stop For Directions

2 Timothy 2:14-26

On a recent trip across several states, my wife and I planned our route via the map app on our cellphone. While we were listening to the electronic navigator, my wife asked, “what did we do before cellphones?” Silly as that question sounds (we are both old enough to have used an atlas for directions), she did have a point. How people get directions for a journey has changed significantly in the last several years.

While the electronic map was very useful (it just fed you directions as you drove), it could be tricky. In 2018 about a 100 cars became stuck in the mud after following an electronic map shortcut.* If you listen to your map, you have to trust it will get you where you are going.

What and how teachings about Christ were being shared was a detriment to the church, not a help. Paul goes so far to say these issues “will spread like gangrene” (v. 17). The content of our message and the way in which we share it is vitally important.

How do you receive and give godly instruction in your life?
