Seek God For Cleansing

Psalm 51:1-9

All of us can identify with the depths of David’s shame for his sin. Not all of us have committed adultery and murder, but we all know David’s dark torment of the soul. David’s “cleanse me, wash me” combined with the images of hyssop and snow are life giving. They sit in stark contrast to the blackness of our guilt, our shame, our neglect, or our selfishness.

We desperately need this cleansing. Until we find it, we live with the stain of sin and death. Some of us cover it up. Some of us ignore its presence. Some of us live with it all out in the open.

May this offer you hope, beginning with “imagine what could be,” then going beyond imagining to a real invitation, real hope, real healing, real air. God will cleanse us. He will stand in front of the torment. He will cut off the chains. He will pierce the darkness. He will breathe the very breath of God into our breathless bodies, just as He did for Adam and for Eve.
