Proverbs 29:1-13

Culturally we are often inundated with an “us versus them” mentality. There are false dichotomies set up between rich and poor, educated and uneducated, citizen and refugee, and liberal and conservative, to name a few. The world has established caste systems, political parties, and has encouraged prejudices. These divisions are another type of blindness.

The Kingdom of God offers us something different. God’s kingdom sees equality and unconditional acceptance. God’s way offers spiritual insight and eternal life to all who believe. We must remember that we are first and foremost God’s creation. The poor, the refugee, the educated, the addict, the powerful, the rich, the powerless, the believer, the non-believer: we are all made in God’s image.

When the church lives into this reality, we become one church, offering the world an alternative to the divisions it has imposed on itself.
