Psalm 86:1-13

At a recent retreat the speaker asked attendees to stand up who had served the Lord for five or more years. A good part of the room stood. The retreat speaker then wanted to discover who had served the Lord the longest. As folks began to compare their spiritual ages, the younger person would be seated until one woman who had served the Lord for 73 years was the only person still standing. When asked what was her secret to a long life for the Lord was she said, “to pursue the Lord and don’t give up, because the Lord is faithful.”

Psalm 86 was king David’s prayer. We know from the scriptures that David loved and feared the Lord his whole life, and yet he struggled with a divided heart. In times of struggle, the Lord would intervene and reveal to David his wickedness.

David’s response relied on God’s faithfulness. He humbled himself in repentance, returned to the Lord, and accepted the consequences of sin.

Do you rely on the Lord to guide and speak into your life? The Lord is faithful to teach and guide as you are willing to obey.
