Romans 13:8-14

My brother Michael has three amazing little boys. At different times throughout the years he and his wife have kept my children for a little while, or I’ve kept theirs. We’re both in full-time ministry and understand that needs arise so we try to always be there to help one another. Just recently he helped install new flooring in my house. I offered several times to pay him, but he wouldn’t let me. He said “we are family, we help each other, and I would never want us to feel like we owe one another.”

There was such beauty in his words. Could he have used the funds? Probably. But what mattered more was that he never wanted to feel as if we needed to keep track. Love doesn’t keep records. Honestly, we owe enough in this world: taxes, insurance, house payments, tuition, utilities, and the list goes on. Yes we need to take care of our financial obligations, but at the end of the day, our greatest obligation is to love. We have been given so much, so freely; it’s the least we can do to give back a portion of all God has given us.
