Hebrews 4:8-16

In verse 12, “Word” is translated from the Greek word logos. In Greek, it is the same word that is utilized in John 1:14, “The Word became flesh.” In John, it refers to Christ, the living, incarnate, Son of God, Jesus. In Hebrews, we see it referencing the Word of God, as in the written scriptures.

In both instances it is the active presence of God to instruct us, teach us, and bring about transformation in our lives. In the gospel accounts, this is exactly what Jesus did. He taught, performed miracles, and brought about transformation in lives. Thousands of years later, the written Word of God remains active.

Also, in verse 12, the word “active” found elsewhere in the New Testament is translated efficient and effective. Are the scriptures, the written Word of God, efficient, effective, and active in your life? Let’s allow God to form us and shape us by spending time in the scriptures.
