Ephesians 2:11-22

Relationships can be described in terms of distance. We say, “Oh, she’s a close friend.” Or, “Oh, we’re not so close.” We all know what it is like to be in a room with someone and feel a million miles apart. Likewise, we know what it is like to be on the other side of the world, literally, and talk on the phone with someone and feel such closeness and familiarity that you can pick up a conversation right where you left off. Ephesians 2 addresses our relational closeness to others and to Christ.

Left to our own devices humans have a propensity to build up walls between one another. We spend many hours separating, isolating, and focusing on what divides us. It’s easy to magnify the fact that I am not like you and you are not like me. Our attention can be clouded by this perspective. This division is what Christ came to alleviate. The blood of Christ, shed for us, brings us near to him and has the power to tear down walls in our human relationships as well. Are you allowing God to do His redemptive work in your life?
