Mark 15:16-32

No one in history has been more efficient in ministry than Jesus. Consider His resume: the blind received sight. The paralyzed walked. The mute discovered their voices. Jesus gave peace to the anxious and the angry. For the condemned, Jesus bestowed forgiveness. No matter where Jesus went, lives were changed. Yet when He walked the road to His death, some still didn’t acknowledge His track record. His disciples scattered. The soldiers mocked Him.

Jesus fulfilled prophecies thousands of years in the making. For some reason, it was this particular moment that mockers wanted Jesus to prove himself. Jesus has clearly provided evidence of His holiness and power. Yet for some reason, those credentials don’t matter in the midst of the current situation where we feel He’s not doing enough.

God forgive us for the times we’ve asked Him to show himself just once more, when, in fact, He has already made His presence abundantly clear. Jesus came to give us freedom, and He’s got the track record to prove it.

Why is it when we need God the most, we don’t think to turn to Him first. Yesterday I was having a meltdown. I’m going away for a church function this weekend, and when I come back next week I’m having surgery. I called my friend crying that I wasn’t going to get everything done in time. She calmed me down and prayed for me. I was much calmer when we hung up. My first reaction when I started to panic should have been to to to God. Why didn’t I? I guess because I’m still too human.

Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-29.
