Exodus 16:1-8

The praises of the Israelites didn’t last long, three days later they were grumbling. How quickly we forget what God does for us. While on vacation, I noticed a middle-aged man wearing a T-shirt with the message: “All I want is what I want when I want it.” Moses should have made the same T-shirts for each Israelite with this same note. This selfish, me-first attitude isn’t new. All we want is what we want and we don’t mind grumbling about it.

What about you today? Are you in the same trap as the children of Israel? Moses and Aaron knew the truth. They said, “You are actually complaining about God.” The children felt cheated and misled. They didn’t mind complaining to their leader, but this journey wasn’t Moses’ idea. They were pointing their selfish fingers right into the face of God.

How foolish we human beings can be at times. In our rash moments we forget that it is only as we submit our lives to God that we can know AT all.
