Why were they so bitter against religion and the Church?
I was part of a seminar and had sat, talked, and shared with about 60 adults for five days. Finally, I heard the answer. They had been raised in churches that preached, “You have sinned. God will judge you.” That was it. No promise of forgiveness. No wonder they were bitter.
Peter’s message was different: “Repent, then, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord”. All sins wiped away, refreshing from the Lord, and the way paved for Christ’s second coming.
Todd had a melanoma cancer on his shoulder. The surgeon cut deep and removed a hunk of flesh. Was the family angry at the doctor? No, they were thrilled that by radical surgery, he removed all the cancer. By repentance, God removes the cancer of sin so you may be blessed and refreshed.
