Les mains et les pieds du Christ

2 Corinthians 5:11-21.
Teresa of Avila, a 16th-century nun, mystic, and religious reformer from Spain, was a prolific writer and spiritual thinker. She wrote a beautiful poem, Christ Has No Body, which includes the following lines: « Christ has no body but yours . . . Yours are the eyes with which he looks compassion (sic) on this world, yours the feet with which he walks to do good, yours are the hands with which he blesses all the world. »
We often talk about the church as a body of believers, but how much time do we spend considering that if Christ lives within us, we are literally called to be His hands and feet for the world? Paul’s challenge for us in this passage is to remember God’s people are a missional people, empowered to go and be ambassadors to the world.
As ambassadors, our work is to represent the heart of God to those who need the gospel. Christ’s love compels us (v. 14), and so we go with the mission to extend that love. This is a mission and a calling: to be Christ’s hands and feet in a world that desperately needs His touch.
