2 Corinthians 1:1-11.
With so much hurt and pain in the world, it can be daunting to imagine that it is all up to us to find the strength, courage, and compassion to support and care for all those who need God’s touch. Fortunately, we are not called to extend compassion to others in the world out of our own strength and power.
The wonderful truth of this passage for those who follow Christ is that we serve a God who has personally experienced the worst suffering we can imagine. Because of that, Christ can come to us in the midst of our own sufferings as the One who works through and redeems it all. Since we are called to share in Christ’s sufferings as His disciples, His divine comfort is also something that we receive.
And, if Christ’s compassion is something that is extended to us, we are then able to extend that compassion to the world around us. The mission to love is not from our own reserves or efforts; instead, we are able to draw on the well that will never run dry as we pull our courage to love from the One whose very nature is love.
