Right Interpretation

2 Timothy 2:14-21.

It is a great challenge to interpret for someone who preaches in a different language. The interpreter usually tries to make sure to get the meaning correct even if they cannot do a word-for-word translation.

Paul was a church leader who was writing to a young pastor, Timothy, and instructing him to be diligent at correctly handling God’s Word. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew and the New Testament in Greek.

The Bible’s 66 books were written by 40 different authors over a period of 1,500 years in different places and different times and different cultures. There are different genres of literature included: narrative, poetry, proverbs, prophecy, gospels, parables, and epistles.

“Rightly dividing” (KJV) means to correctly interpret or give the right meaning of each passage. The burden is on the messenger to study to be able to do that well for their place, time, and people.

Right interpretation is crucial for those who hear the word and apply it in their lives.
