Because I Said So
September 29th, 2025
Leviticus 19:1-10.
Hands up if you’ve ever been on the receiving end of the phrase, “Because I said so, that’s why!” Perhaps you were the one speaking (or thinking) those words. Or maybe you’ve had the privilege of being on both sides. While it’s true that we learn more through understanding, sometimes in a battle of wills explanations just aren’t enough. So, it comes down to those six choice words: “Because I said so, that’s why!”
In today’s passage, God was reviewing the rules yet again. The Israelites, like the many other members of the human race, were a very stubborn people. They needed to hear God’s special list of “do’s and don’ts” in a variety of ways and repeated frequently. God was thorough and orderly as always, covering the basics like lying, stealing, murder, and loving your mom and dad. Yet, even more important than loving mom is loving our sovereign, holy God and putting Him and His commandments first.
The very first thing God put on Moses’ agenda was to remind the people that God is holy, and that the reason He is holy is because He is the Lord.
We serve a holy God. Let holiness always be our anthem.
