God is the Source of Wisdom
June 7th, 2025
Psalm 111:1-10
Psalm 111 is a praise song. Praise forms its bookends: the first, “Praise the LORD” (v. 1), and the second, “His praise endures forever!” (v. 10, ESV). Psalm 111 is also a wisdom psalm. The psalmist declares, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom” (v. 10).
The psalmist identifies himself only as “I.” He appears to be the song leader before an “assembly” of worshipers (v. 1). Imagine yourself among them! He sings out this psalm/song line-by-line, pausing for the worshipers to sing each line back to him in unison.
Perhaps you sing the song several times until you have it memorized. When you leave service that Lord’s Day, you go to your home with a new song in your heart and on your lips to sing throughout the week as you go about your work, travel, or play.
As you sing, you will be reminded of God’s great deeds of the past (v. 2), His graciousness and compassion (v. 4), His provision of food (v. 5), His faithfulness, justice, and trustworthiness (v. 7), and His everlasting covenant (v. 9).
Above all, you will be reminded that God’s name is holy! (v. 9).
