God’s Wisdom is Fruitful

June 6th, 2025

Proverbs 10:24-32

Proverbs 10 contrasts “the wicked” and “the righteous.” Earlier, Woman Wisdom warned fools who rejected her call to repent that disaster would fall on them like “a whirlwind” (1:27). Here, the Proverbs teacher gives the same warning to “the wicked”: “When the storm [“whirlwind”] has swept by, the wicked are gone” (10:25).

“Storm” here cannot mean a physical storm, for in a heavy storm such as a whirlwind, both wicked and righteous persons suffer harm. Instead, “storm” is a metaphor for those troubles that fall on the wicked. They have no spiritual roots to hold them and keep them from being swept away.

In contrast, “The righteous, [their] foundation is forever” (v. 25, author’s translation). This “foundation” that is “forever” is a life lived in “the fear of the LORD,” which “adds length to life” (v. 27). “The righteous will never be uprooted, but the wicked will not remain in the land” (v. 30).
