Almighty God Purifies
May 18th, 2025
Psalm 51:7-12
Are we really as strong as we pretend to be? If we’re Christians, all our good intentions and secret sins at some point finally catch up with us. Our façade of strength is revealed as moral weakness. We chose between pretending all is well and confessing our need of a Savior. Then we must choose to rely on God’s powerful willingness to forgive.
Everyone is born with a tendency to do what they know is wrong. The biggest shame in sin is pretending to be innocent with no need of God’s amazing grace and forgiveness. By God’s will and our awareness of our own spiritual morbidity, we come to a point when we choose to cry out to God for undeserved mercy. We finally get how weak we are from the weight of unconfessed sin.
Fortunately for us, we can cry out to God like David did. We can ask God for heart-cleansing purity because we know He’s faithful to provide it. If we hope to make it through another week, we need to ask God to renew a steadfastness in us today.
