Acts 9:10-19
After Saul’s encounter on the road to Damascus, his companions led the humbled, blind man into the city. No more the arrogant persecutor of Christians, he now believed. He had heard the call to go and to wait for further instructions. Meanwhile, Ananias also heard the call to meet Saul. Understandably, Ananias was a bit hesitant due to Saul’s reputation. However, the call to go remained loud and clear.
Saul’s call was to take the gospel to “the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel” (v. 15). However, he had two needs—physical and spiritual. Ananias prayed; Saul received sight and the Holy Spirit. The Lord knew Saul would need the Holy Spirit since suffering would be in his future.
He stayed in Damascus for several days proclaiming that Jesus was the Son of God. His transformation was a testimony to those who heard him. Divine power had intersected human obedience.
God continues to call. That is half of the equation. The completion is human obedience. Who will answer?
