It Is Finished

John 19:28-37     

Anyone who has taken a creative writing course knows that a good composition has a beginning, a middle, and an end. There’s usually a planned storyline, complete with characters, a conflict to be resolved or a goal to be reached. At the end of the story is a clear resolution.

Our God is a God of order. When He does something, He has a plan. His plans have a beginning, a middle, and an end. His plan for salvation was no different.

When Christ was crucified, Scripture records a very specific moment when Jesus declared: “It is finished.” A clear resolution to the story of sin had been found and there was no longer a chasm of darkness between God and His people. Ritual sacrifice was no longer necessary. It was truly finished.

The work Christ did on the cross carries no expiration date and it isn’t in short supply. His grace is abundant and free to all those who choose to believe.
