Esther 8:1-6
Esther was in a position of power and Mordecai’s enemy, Haman, had been done away with. She could have ignored the danger to other Jews and not risked asking the king for more on behalf of her people. After all, the king had gotten rid of the previous queen because she did not listen to him. Esther risked herself in telling the king what to do! Yet, it was a risk she was willing to take.
We have had the opportunity to speak, intervene, vote, or protest when we see wrong being done to others. When the bully torments, the boss treats employees unfairly, when laws and politicians speak words that discriminate, we should speak and work on behalf of the oppressed, excluded, and tormented.
Esther could not let a danger to her people stand even though she was secure. God calls us to speak, love, and take the risk. We are called to take up our cross and follow the way of Jesus Christ, who laid His life down for all, including those who would do Him harm.
