Humble and Desperate

October 9th, 2024

Daniel 9:15-19

Daniel’s prayer ends in a place of both humility and desperation. Daniel remembered God’s great actions in the past for the people, bringing the people out of the bondage of Egyptian slavery, even while acknowledging that the people had sinned and done wrong.

Daniel recognized that the people had no basis on their own by which to ask for God’s intervention. They had continually messed things up.

Ultimately, Daniel appealed to God’s own zeal for His name and glory. “Open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. . . . For your sake, my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name” (vv. 18-19).

God is passionate about His glory and the glory of His name. This is appropriate, rather than prideful, because God is the ultimate reality holding all of the universe together.

When we approach God with humility and a deep sense of our need for Him, He will listen.
