Psalm 86:8-13

Do you remember the activities, often for children, where you compare two pictures to find the differences? Sometimes the differences pop right out at you. Other times you have to hunt to find them. The process can be particularly frustrating when you are given the number of differences but fall short in the number you can find.

David notes in Psalm 86 that there is no other god like the Creator God. You can compare them all day long, and you will never find anything equal to God. Perhaps you think it is a silly task—after all, golden calves and foreign religions are obviously no match for God.

Have you really considered all the other gods that can be compared to God? What about the idols we can find in our lives and cultures? Fame, power, control, money, selfish ambition, vanity, career, family . . . literally anything that takes the place of God in the very center of our lives becomes an idol. How do those compare? The obvious answer is, “These idols don’t compare.”
