Christ Working in Us

1 Corinthians 1:1-9

Have you ever been in a situation where everything just seems to fall in place? You know you’re following God’s direction, everything is going smoothly, your community is clicking, and you’re being fulfilled in what you do. It feels blessed and enriched.

In writing his letter to the church in Corinth, “to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be his holy people,” Paul acknowledges the role that God’s grace plays in our lives. He explains that it is a blessing and enriching: It is the confirmation of Jesus working in and among us. God is giving us the gifts we need to be faithful witnesses of Christ, and Paul emphasizes the importance of fellowship with the Lord.

It is a cycle. We are given gifts to help us in our relationship with God, which then allows us to understand and use those gifts better, which deepens our relationship, and so on and so forth. The ascension of Jesus did not remove the presence of God from this earth; the Holy Spirit is with us, working until “the day of our Lord Jesus Christ” (v. 8).
