2 Corinthians 7:9-16
Have you ever encountered someone who enjoys being right and quickly reminds others of their incorrectness?
This is not the writer’s attitude in 2 Corinthians 7. Paul takes the demeanor of a spiritual parent. In the same way that many parents find disciplining their children sad and difficult, Paul also shares this sentiment. Although it is challenging to see one’s children sorrowful, a good parent understands that it will lead to correction. Verse 10 reminds us that sorrow and regret are not always bad things. Many repent and find salvation.
The words “happy, earnestness, eagerness, longing, concern, readiness, and justice” stand out. It is incredible what God does with a life fully surrendered.
To repent, we must first understand that where we are or what we are doing is sinful and harmful to us and to others. Remember this when the Holy Spirit directs you to correct a friend, a brother, or a sister. Let the Holy Spirit correct you in your spirit or through others. Accept it in the humility of Christ.
