Perfecting Holiness

April 24th, 2024

2 Corinthians 7:1-8

Second Corinthians 7 begins with a reminder of God’s promises and the believer’s responsibility: “Let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God” (v. 1).

During their teenage years, young people face many obstacles and temptations. With the advent of social media and an onslaught of daily international bad news, depression has risen.

In In 2 Corinthians 7, Paul’s sense of his joy, great confidence, and pride through this relationship with the believers in Corinth (v. 4) is obvious. He speaks like a father who has lived to see his children grow up. This is why he begins with such a strong directive. In essence, he was instructing them to “grow up.” He was, however, diplomatic about it. These people were dear to him. He used this mutually inclusive language to encourage their responsibility in this process of holiness.
