Reproof Brings Repentance

2 Corinthians 2:1-11
Second Corinthians 2:1-11 is full of trigger words, descriptors that call us to stand up and pay attention:
Painful Grieve Anguish Distressed
Paul begins addressing his state of mind and concern for the church in Corinth. Those believers addressed here understood Paul’s parental love through other words:
Glad Rejoice Confidence Joy Love
Forgive Comfort Reaffirm
It seems difficult to get through a day in media (social or otherwise) in which the idea of individual truth is not emphasized somewhere. He has “his” truth; she has “her” truth; and they have “another” truth. We are told that it is all “relative” to one’s own experience.
Church leaders find it challenging to address biblical sin when everyone seems to have their own idea of what makes a sin. Paul also seems torn up as he addresses the church and individuals. This reminds us that rebuke comes with this element of love. Forgiveness is a two-way street and contains a component of healing.
