Hebrews 6:13-20
Abraham waited patiently for what he did not have—yet. Are you waiting for one of God’s promises? I received a vision of ordination from the Lord in my early 20s. I actually saw it when I closed my eyes in prayer.
When I feel like chastising myself for my own impatience and perhaps lack of faith over the years, I remember Abraham. Even he tried to speed up God’s promise, through Hagar, Sarah’s maid, who gave birth to Ishmael.
When we try to force God’s hand, we risk tragedy. Ishmael and Hagar ended up in the wilderness, but even there, God held out hope for a future. This hope remains for us because of the unchangeable nature of God. God never lies. His promises bring us hope. And hope anchors the soul.
