Luke 7:1-10
The centurion was a man’s man, a man of wealth and power, and highly esteemed by his servants. Yet he responded to Jesus with humility. We glimpse his character—unique in his caring about a mere servant.
I am intrigued by a tiny clue in Luke 7:3: the centurion “heard of Jesus.” Perhaps it is an obscure piece of information in the midst of the power and the positions, the servants pleading and the character-hype surrounding this story. However, at the conclusion of the story, Jesus hailed this centurion as one with great faith for having believed first without meeting Jesus. In the midst of all his power and position, the unlikely centurion lived by faith and with humility. The one least likely to be chosen as the most faithful by his religious contemporaries was found to have great faith.
Do you have a space in your life that needs a centurion-like faith? Bring it to God and ask for His guidance and grace.
